No whirling graphics, no dorky music, no disturbing sound effects,
you just need the improtant information. So don't let it blow your mind.

Sound familiar? It's the basics of communication. For this example, let's say you're a plumber and want to get the word out.
Awesome. Since the Yellow Pages are going more and more out of style and most people are searching online, you need to make sure you are there for them when they look. With your phone number, area covered, etc. That can get you business when somebody needs a plumber.
I like to use the example of a website being a billboard you own. Like a billboard they'll take action when they need you. No amount of sparklers, fireworks, and expensive graphics can make someone NEED a plumber. Customers are like mates, be there when you need them and they'll be yours forever.

Now let's get your domain name.
By far, there is only one place you want to go.
I have been doing web stuff in San Diego for 10 years. I've used a bunch of places and have overspent and been disappointed. These guys were the ones that broke the get-rich-quick scheme of other registrars and offered domains for about a quarter of what the other jerks charge. Network Solutions, who are IN SAN DIEGO charge a yearly $35 for domains and GoDaddy is about $10. If you get their inexpensive (which I recommend) hosting for the start up it'll only be $3.
I've recommended them a hundreds of times and everyone has always been happy. I finally wised up and signed up for their affiliate system so I can finally get lunch money for my recommendations. Which is kind of nice. You can do that too if you don't mind ads on your site. More on that later. |
